No connection to the cards is pretty much my objection to Magic, the best 2 early sets for involvment were Fallen Empires and Homelands, but because they were crappy in terms of card power, they dumped all association with them, Fallen Empires actually had a very cool story to it, but that didn't interest the competetive players.

Heh; I won my first Warlord tournament, Gerry organised it in Aldershot, so I drove half the country (with Paul) to play.

I liked reading about all the reports of the megatour, I like the way they kept it going with Invasion and now Conquest.
