Top blogger releases book

So, what do you do when you've written a novel and have access to the Guardian's high traffic weblog? Post a plug, or two, or three? Nah, that's underkill, right? How about thirty-three plugs?:

Last Sunday I went into a bookshop, a link in one of the big retail chains. Entering a bookshop can be a risky business for an author with a new novel out (plug 4) unless his or her ego is in good shape. They contain so many books that unless your new novel (plug 5) is displayed in the front window or else one of those stacked on a table near the front it's hard to imagine their customers even discovering that your book exists (plug 6), let alone purchasing a copy unless they'd arrived intent on doing so.

D'you reckon he wants you to buy his book? The actual article isn't that bad, but I'm just reposting because, well, gotta admire the cheek...

Comedy works in a series of ones, threes or billions. You can plug once and make it cute. You could plug three times and maybe make it seem clever. Plugging thirty-three times and acknowledging them just becomes funny, in my book. ;)

That was what I (and it seems half the UK blogs I read) thought. That he's going around commenting with the same link thanking people for the plug (when they've already done the link) might be considered excessive/obsessive, but it's amusing so far.

Oh, and the pisstaking of Olver Kamm and Chomsky here is great...

TBH, I've spent half the evening figuring out how to start it up.

The only rule I've come up with so far is "if there is any doubt over the meaning of a word, the definition found in Mat's copy of the Oxford Concise wins".

Need a really good stupid to get started methinks, but mwandie hasn't posted to LJUK for ages...

(aside: realised tonight a rule of thumb as I listened to the Trevor's world of sport repeat. Written by Andy: good, not written by him=Claire in the Community or similar)

Hadn't been paying attention to who wrote stuff until recently, but now I do I realise how much more stuff he's done.

A comm should be pretty easy to set up. have you looked at the FAQ?

I feel that was about Drop the Dead Donkey.

I noticed the ones that he wrote are much more cartoony and funnier than when they have a guest writer.

That's what I love about his writing...its exagerrated but believable.

Oh yeah, I know how to do it, I just lack inspiration for a first post. I'm in a meh mood today, not sure why, last week at work I guess.

Gimme a stupid to mock that's UK based and I'm there, but the UK comms are being sane last few days, which is unusual...
