Load balancing programmers?

What we did last night did not work, we need another day to get this running.

There's no point in letting everyone try to play and face errors, so we're closing it for some more time. Please check back in tomorrow.

Well, you'll probably beat me on this game, what with "zones" as your opening word. I'm not sure I agree with the dictionary it uses though; you shouldn't be able to play Louis as a word!

All they need now is a dictionary that allows words I use regularly.... such as Sith, Drokk, Tardis and Vorlon!

It's the official Scrabble tournament wordlist, and yes, I was surprised I could play it, I tried it on a whim because it fit.

But yeah, Zones was a good one; OTOH, Jennie recently hammered me with 3 bingoes in one game, things can turn around quickly.

There's also a knack to placing stuff in two-player, I was really bad in my early games.

Regarding placement, I tended to always resort to trying to block off the triple word scores, which tended to lead to rather low scoring games (and annoying folks).

I must say that I'm not fond of the "double word score for the first word" rule. I know it's a rule that's in Scrabble, but.. ah well.

Wonder if they'd take submissions for a new 'fun' dictionary, take out all the weird words that no one knows from SOWPODS, and replace them with stuff from films &c that we do know. Possible I suppose...

I think it makes sense in that first word gives you less options, you can't build off letters on the board, you can't use any of the double letter scores right next to it, etc.

Haven't seen a noticeable advantage to first player on avarage, really; it's a lot more about who gets the triple word scores later.
