If we're talking about SUP, the dodginess is LJ's fault, for automatically accepting all OpenID requests from SUP and not letting you reject them.

Usually, you're given a choice to let the site know once, always, not know.

MyOpenID is the top of the curve on the OpenID game--so far nobody I know does it better. So it would be best to look at them to begin with.
