I guess—sometimes when I say things like "you do know the Confederates were right, constitutionally" and "it wasn't about slavery" I get some funny looks from those educated to worship Lincoln as a great man (he was, socialist to) and "the man that freed the slaves".

If you're interested, this is one of my favourite history books (not on ACW, but all of history), very well written and gets across a lot of the background fairly well. Saw copies in every bookstore I went in while over there so odds are getting it cheap'll be easy.
