If you're not chuckling immensely, you didn't grow up in the UK. If you didn't, then, y'know, ask for explanation. (via) Yes, I know, I don't post enough, I keep meaning to, so I'm just going to try and do it more
Your American readers should be laughing, too, because this is exactly what the Public Access cable channels do today.
Okay, maybe not throwing a slideshow up from Google pages, but having Verizon/Cablevision/RCN or whomever throw a up a slide show that's disturbingly close not only the quality but to the music (in fact, I think my town's access channels has the exact same music).
Although the fact that the BBC did this once upon a time does give me a fall over laughing moment because, like I said, it's associated with low-budget, non-profit, non-commercial, public access channels.
Ah, cool. The "pages from" thing is a dig at Ceefax/Teletext, for ages, the BBC used to just put up pages of text when programmes were off air; when I was a kid, they even did this on BBC2, one of the then three (total) stations we had available.
And, if it was raining, I would at times sit and read it waiting for something to come on.
Wonderful. And I am much more delighted than I should be to tell you that the second result on the last page is for the blog of M's mate who was an usher at our wedding! Woo-hoo!
Unless my memory is betraying me again (not unlikely), I only really remember the test card from the other side: Watching it early in the morning, waiting for the channel to start up again *s*
Made me smile! They still do have Ceefax overnight on 2 sometimes - if I'm working the night shift, it's preferable to SuperCasino or whatever on FIVE.
I laughed my a** off when I found this on your blog. It is SOOOOOO funny - and you're right, if you did not live here even only as far back as the late 80's it is lost on ya!
Aw, I was waiting for the big long 'beeeeeeeppppp' they used to have after a while in case you had fallen asleep in front of your telly. Most disappointing... though 'This is Google you clown' pretty much made up for it.
Until the credits, all the SERPs are faked up, some of the others are a bit more obvious if you look closely. The Chancellor does not have a page of naked pics anywhere, thankfully.

But the ones before the credits are ace; "this is Google you clown". Although the idea of naked Alistair Darling pics is scary.
