In that case, Baxter's Time, Space and Origin books are cool, as is Phase Space. I love Reynolds generally.

Kim Stanley Robinson is excellent, esp. the Mars books and Years of Rice and Salt. Beyond that, dunno; have a look at the Storycode thing I linked to a few days back.
