Guess the film in 15 quotes

Oh OK then, I was going to do this when I first saw it, but I finally got my round tuit supply in.
Rules:
+ Pick 15 of your favorite movies.
+ Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
+ Post them here for everyone to guess.
+ Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
+ NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions.

  1. I always gagged on the silver spoon. Citizen Kane, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] thepunkprincess

  2. Half of writing history is hiding the truth. Serenity, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] yuxonomei. It was deliberately more obscure given virtually all of you have seen it.

  3. I'm the head Frog here. The Lost Boys, finally guessed by [livejournal.com profile] draich_goch

  4. A man who no more knows his destiny than a tea leaf knows the history of the East India company. The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy, [livejournal.com profile] snapesbabe, [livejournal.com profile] andrewducker, [livejournal.com profile] mooism & [livejournal.com profile] thapunkprincess. And not any of the PoTC films, although they may have used the quote?

  5. Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away? [livejournal.com profile] ninebelow & [livejournal.com profile] eldar,

  6. I remember how the meaning of words began to change. How unfamiliar words like "collateral" and "rendition" became frightening, while things like Norsefire and the Articles of Allegiance became powerful. I remember how "different" became dangerous. I still don't understand it, why they hate us so much. [livejournal.com profile] feels_like_this, [livejournal.com profile] getawaywithit, [livejournal.com profile] andrewducker & [livejournal.com profile] thapunkprincess

  7. Her: I'll be back. The Empire Strikes Back, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] baseballchica03. Yes, this was a trick question, and no, Terminator 3 does not appear on my list of favourite movies.

  8. XXX: What is your nationality?
    YYY: I'm a drunkard.
XXX: That makes YYY a citizen of the world.
Casablanca, finally got by [livejournal.com profile] getawaywithit

  9. Disneyland. Fuck, man, this is better than Disneyland. Apocalypse Now, [livejournal.com profile] thapunkprincess

  10. I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do. 2001: A Space Odyssey, by [livejournal.com profile] snapesbabe & [livejournal.com profile] paulatpingu

  11. Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room. Dr. Strangelove (the obvious one) [livejournal.com profile] wieselkind, [livejournal.com profile] snapesbabe, [livejournal.com profile] paulatpingu, [livejournal.com profile] getawaywithit, [livejournal.com profile] ninebelow, [livejournal.com profile] strangefrontier, [livejournal.com profile] andrewducker, [livejournal.com profile] eldar, [livejournal.com profile] mooism & [livejournal.com profile] thapunkprincess

  12. Enjoying that are you my darlin'? Bit cold and pointless isn't it my lovely? What's happened to yours my little sister? A Clockwork Orange, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] yuxonomei, [livejournal.com profile] draich_goch & [livejournal.com profile] two_brains

  13. There's more to life than a little money, ya know. Don'tcha know that? And here ya are. And it's a beautiful day. Well. I just don't understand it. Fargo, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] baseballchica03, although [livejournal.com profile] draich_goch knew the answer but couldn't name it.

  14. If my answers frighten you then you should cease asking scary questions. Pulp Fiction, by [livejournal.com profile] draich_goch

  15. So God was creating man. And his little assistant came up to him and he said: "Hey, we've got all these bodies left, but we're right out of brains, we're right out of hearts and we're right out of vocal chords." And God said: "Fuck it! Sew 'em up anyway. Smack smiles on the faces and make them talk out of their arses." And lo, God created the Tory Party. Brassed Off, both [livejournal.com profile] snapesbabe & [livejournal.com profile] thapunkprincess
There's at least one trick question, a few sillynesses, and one so obvious that I expect you all to get it.

In a little twist, comments screened, you have between now and whenever I get bored to answer as many as you can, points awarded for bragging rights, etc...

ETA: Results so far...
[livejournal.com profile] thapunkprincess: 5 points
[livejournal.com profile] snapesbabe: 4 points
[livejournal.com profile] draich_goch: 3.5 points for half getting Fargo
[livejournal.com profile] andrewducker: 3 points
[livejournal.com profile] ninebelow: 3 points
[livejournal.com profile] getawaywithit: 3 points
[livejournal.com profile] baseballchica03: 2 points, plus one for getting the trick question without hints
[livejournal.com profile] paulatpingu: 2 points, and he missed the obvious one, despite being the person that introduced it to me. Mea Culpa, he thought it too obvious to even say, which is fair.
[livejournal.com profile] eldar: 2 points
[livejournal.com profile] mooism: 2 points
[livejournal.com profile] yuxonomei: 2 points
[livejournal.com profile] strangefrontier: 1 point
[livejournal.com profile] feels_like_this: 1 point
[livejournal.com profile] wieselkind: 1 point
[livejournal.com profile] two_brains: 1 points
[livejournal.com profile] freddiefraggles: 0 points (ouch)
ETA 2: Comments still going to be screened, answered ones (and therefore some hints) are unscreened. And no, 7 has nothing to do with any Terminator movie.
ETA 3: All done after I dropped a few hints.

Is 6 - V for Vendetta?

[identity profile] wieselkind.livejournal.com 2008-02-23 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
No. 11 I believe is 'Dr Strangelove:Or how i stopped worrying and learnt to love the bomb'

[identity profile] miss-s-b.livejournal.com 2008-02-23 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
4 is Hitchhiker's Guide
11 is Dr Strangelove.
15 is going to drive me mad; I can see the guy's face and hear his voice...

Oooh! Ooh! Brassed off!

[identity profile] freddiefraggles.livejournal.com 2008-02-23 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
2. V for Vendetta?
3. Muppets something. Definitely a Kermit-ism, and if it isn't I'll feel all stupid.
4. Pirates of the Caribbean... 1?

[identity profile] paulatpingu.livejournal.com 2008-02-23 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll guess that 8 is Withnail and I, and that 10 is 2001 (or 2010, or of the series).

Is 12 Interview With A Vampire?

The obvious one is too obvious. I'd try to name a film where they've used the line as an homage, but I'm not that clever...

[identity profile] getawaywithit.livejournal.com 2008-02-23 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
OK, 6 is V For Vendetta, 11 is Dr Strangelove. Is 3 a Muppet movie, and 4 Pirates of the Caribbean? And I'm going for T2 for number 7, by the process of elimination that says 'I respect Mat. Mat generally appears to have good taste, therefore he cannot count T3 as one of his favourite movies.' :)

[identity profile] ninebelow.livejournal.com 2008-02-23 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
6. V For Vendetta
7. Not Terminator 3, surely?
11. Dr Strangelove

[identity profile] strangefrontier.livejournal.com 2008-02-23 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmph. All I can get is #11 = Dr Strangelove. Um, I hate to ask, but which one is supposed to be so obvious that we all get it?

[identity profile] spiral-solution.livejournal.com 2008-02-23 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope not, it's the only one I know! :(

[identity profile] getawaywithit.livejournal.com 2008-02-23 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I recognise number 4, but can't think where from, and so the 'East India Company' bit made me think of POTC for some reason. I think it just goes to show how hard it is to recognise some of these out of context - there'll be a lot of 'Oh, of course!' when the answers arrive, I'm sure.

4) HHGTG
6) V for Vendetta
11) Dr Strangelove

And that's all the ones I recognise.

Gah!

[identity profile] eldar.livejournal.com 2008-02-23 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
4. PotC:CotBP
5. Aliens. Ripley during the boardroom debriefing.
11. Dr Strangelove, or How I Stopped Worrying And Learned To Love The Bomb.

Though I fully expect all three to have been guessed already.

[identity profile] ninebelow.livejournal.com 2008-02-23 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Shaun Of The Dead?

I know 5 and it is going to piss me off. Wait: Aliens? I was thinking a teen rom com at first but now I'm thinking Ripley.

[identity profile] mooism.livejournal.com 2008-02-23 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
4 has to be the Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

11 I am guessing is Dr Strangelove.

No idea about the rest.

[identity profile] paulatpingu.livejournal.com 2008-02-23 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Mat, give me some credit. I know where number 11 is from, and so should everyone else on the planet. It's kind of silly putting something that easy into a quotes quiz...

If it helps, the subtitle is 'Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb.' It's by the same director as number 10, and it is my favourite film.

The fail is that there's a load of other quotes there I should know but don't. I'm really not good at placing film quotes - I don't have that level of memory of stuff that I like.

[identity profile] thapunkprincess.livejournal.com 2008-02-23 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I can get a few I think, but will take a crack at all of them.

1) Citizen Kane
2) No idea
3) No idea
4) Lawrence of Arabia (??)
5) No idea
6) V for Vendetta
7) Terminator 3 (??)
8) No idea
9) Apocalypse Now
10 Dogma (??)
11) Dr Strangelove (presumably the obvious one!)
12) Rings a bell, can't place it.
13) No idea
14) Argh! Rings an even bigger bell, cannot place it. Silence of the Lambs or Usual Suspects?
15) Was gonna say Naked, then thought it's probably Christopher Eccleston in Brassed Off?
