The power of LJ - Food and Board Games

Today, I had a good day. It started well, I had a nice doze, checked my email using the phone, and then, well, I started getting text messages. Many of them. Mostly from [livejournal.com profile] mapp, but also from [livejournal.com profile] paulatpingu and [livejournal.com profile] freddiefraggles. I was, um, persuaded, to get out of bed and get to Exeter.

So, rather than turn the PC on as I went into the kitchen, I instead actually turned on the oven and cooked a decent, but quick, meal. Jacket spud, carrot, peas, Quorn fillets, beetroot and some of the mixed salad I keep buying. I used to hate salad leaves, these days I can't eat meals without them; benefits of travel I guess, the Greeks persuaded me to try them alongside halloumi, haven't looked back.

Drove up to Exeter, met up with [livejournal.com profile] nearly_everyone, including the abovementioned as well as [livejournal.com profile] draxar, [livejournal.com profile] iamseph, [livejournal.com profile] seth_ra and others. We played Fluxx, which, as usual, was silly, then Duncan insisted we try Sitting Ducks. It's silly. Very very silly. There are few, if any, tactics involved. I want a copy.

We playe Fluxx again as we were waiting for [livejournal.com profile] granjero to arrive, we then played Britannia. This is a classic board game that I play every so often on Monday nights with the Chuckadice loons, but Duncan has bought the new Fantasy Flight all singing-all dancing incredibly well presented (it is Fantasy Flight) version. I do well as the Belgae (as in, I don't die), awful as the Picts (as in, I do reasonably badly and never actually get anywhere; next time, stay in the Highlands until after the Romans have given you a big slap), very well as the Angles until the very end where I messed up and then I was the Normans. Suffice to say, William didn't really Conquer. He sort of gave a few people a slap, then died. We ended up with a Dubliner king. Don't ask how, I'm still not sure. Very very cool, the new version is an improvement on a classic game and well worth it. If at some point I'm able to start spending money again (not long now), I'll get a copy I think.

Overall, very glad I dragged self out of flat to Exeter, board games are always a great way to spend an afternoon, and talked through with various people the plans for different bits of TaKtiX, which is good. Back to work tomorrow. Ought to turn in really.
