Nielsen's right. Amazon sucks...
2005-Aug-05, Friday 00:22A few days back, I ordered some books from Amazon. Today, I get an email that one of the books will be delayed. Now, as I've selected the free delivery for big orders option, I'm not keen on this, as it means I wait over a month for my delivery.
So, given that I can reorganise, add and subtract items from my preferences, etc, why not cancel the item that's delayed, and order something else instead?
Sounds like a good idea to me. Should be easy to. It was. Then I looked at me Orders folder, where all my Amazon emails go to...

1 email to tell me of the delay. 8 come to me as I amend the order. Why don't they wait until I've finished, and just send one email? Of course, given the crappy formatting they use, half the emails have first hit my spam folder and have to be unfiltered as well. I'd stick to Play.com, but they didn't have what I wanted in stock :-(
And changing the order around wasn't exactly straightforward anyway. I created a new order, merged the orders, then deleted items form the complete order,w hile having to change delivery preferences to find out which items were causing delays. Ah well.
So, who's Nielsen? The author of my favourite web utility column.

Actually, he didn't say Amazon sucks, he said it should no longer be emulated, and I agree with him. That site is far too cluttered, the play.com UI is much easier to follow.
(Yes, I know I could change my preferences for getting sent emails, but, well, they sent me 8 in 20 minutes, all while I tried to do one, simple thing!)
