Bloody pagans. Do y'all like the way the media and the Govt is commenting loads on this set of (southern) flooding, but when Yorkshire got swamped a few weeks back it was barely commented on and that nice Mr Brown went partying?

I really can't imagine nice Mr. Brown going partying, even during the conference season. The idea of him dad-dancing to the Arctic Monkeys with a glass of low-calorie advocaat in his hand is almost as unlikely as him, say, riding a rocking horse while wearing only a nappy.

And no disrespect to anyone anywhere who has suffered from flooding, but the extent of this weekend's deluge does seem in a different league.

I found this bit of one of the articles unintentionally amusing, given one of the areas in question (and its reputation for chav-ness):

On a more serious note, Exeter - astonishingly - has been free of torrential rain for the last couple of days, although we did have a bit one morning earlier in the week.

There's a part of me that hates to admit this, but I was chanelling last Sunday's Janet Street Porter, where she was bitching about him going to fundraisers while the north was flooded.

Ridiculously bitchy column, and woefully misinformed bigotry: The Spectator might be regarded as influential to politicians, journalists and a coterie of the in crowd. But it probably sells fewer than six copies in Hull—because of course Hull doesn't have a fairly big university, nor does it have any succesful business types and the Tory vote is in single figures, naturally, it's up north.

Shame that she ruins a fairly good point by over the top factually innacurate snark, but she's a columnist, at least she's not Polly.

TBH, we've not really had the TV on and I've not been online for non-work purposes as much, so I'm not sure how bad it's been down London way, but regardless, the difference in reaction is always palpable, if it's not in the SE, it frequently hasn't happened, so much for the days of a decentralised media.

Ah well.

It's not been that bad up here either, but then, just down the road was already hit in the last floods; I have pictures of places that were completely underwater (to below my head height) when it was hit, and Brighouse wasn't bad compared to some places.

Exeter not getting drenched is unusual, but it's unusual for most of it to actually be hurt, the hill protects and all that...

It is, of course, mere coincidence, and random chance, and all that. But it's still a fairly cool coincidence; still can't figure out if she really is that humourless, the rain magic line still strikes me as a fairly droll joke.

It's a particularly tasteless joke coming from a pagan, given that this year's crops are FUCKED in many parts of the country due to too much rain. But yeah :)
