Sure, he can be understiated, but he's the last Time Lord, not a kid. I know that makes a lot less sense to you, but having gone through being patronised by someone younger and less experienced than me more than once it can be really annoying.
Given The Doctor regularly has to deal with people in authority, it should be a problem--we'll see how they cover it in the scripts I guess, if they don't, then it'll be more annoying to me, personally.
As it is, I hold out and remain to be convinced. He is at least not stupid.
