I read a study once that said marriages never really lasted. Mostly because someone tended to die. Othertimes,t hey broke up, but were never formally 'divorced'.
It's just modern society that idealises marriage for life and then bemoans it doesn't work due to the end of some mythical golden age.
But yeah, basic form of feminism I kinda like; replace the legal aspects with contracts, normally for fixed length but extendable, with huge provisions for childcare, responsibilities, etc. If it's an option to renew, then acrimony can be avoided, kids cared for, etc.
Extended networks can work better than simple "traditional" couples for the most part. Mostly because they always did. Anyway, I'm reading lj_biz posts, they're being sane and rational in the 6A offices, which is too weird for my brain...
