DVD Reviewer: Since the original series, has much in the world of politics changed? Are there more or less targets to ridicule these days?

Andy Hamilton: Nothing changes, it just gets worse. The targets get more ridiculous, but also more serious. In 1990 we thought Ronald Reagan was as stupid as any world leader we could ever get – now he looks like a genius.

He's sort of got a point there. Please America, try to elect a non-idiot next time? Please?

Barely. Popular vote didn't go to Bush either time. Unfortunately, popular vote isn't what counts.

He still got a greater %share than Clinton both times (I know, Perot).

Electoral College would be a good idea if every state did as Maine does, then every state would count properly as is the ideal. As it is, it just distorts results. Strange thing is it happens more in the UK on a system that should be less likely to do it.

Fortunately, they can't do so again. Under normal circumstances I think term limits to be an affront to democracy, in this case, I thank them. OTOH, he'd have never had a chance vs Clinton.

Unfortunately, there are still a large number of them that think he's done a good job.

I used to love Drop the Dead Donkey: it was good funny acting, rather than just funny acting.

It was the best thing around. Until The Day Today...

Ah, but have you re-watched any Day Today eps? I bought a video once expecting the genuis I remembered, and instead was mildly bored. For some reason it didn't age half as well.

I'm coming to the conclusion that most of the comedy I've ever liked had something to do with Andy Hamilton, it seems to make sense.

I loved Andy Hamilton's radio stuff - Old Harry's Game and the one I can't remember the title of about the American revolution - Revolting People? Something like that.

His older radio comedy Million Pound Radio Show is playing on BBC7 at the moment.

I've always liked Pearson, and I like Hamilton's comedy, so yes, World of Sport appeals. Especially as it seems to really dislike most sport type people, which is extra good.

But yeah, Revolting People was the other one, and I like that as well. It was tying the shows I liked all together and realising the common tie that got me actively seeking out Hamilton's stuff rather than simply enjoying it when I encounter it.

Sadly, my Day Today tape(s) appear to have been lost in one of my many moves over the years, so I forget which ones I liked. I do recall the Sun used teh same style in an advert once, and Peter York reviewed the ad completely oblivious to the parody/homage/rip off.

There is one episode of Day Today that I taped at the time - where world war 3 breaks out between Australia and Hong Kong?

It is frighteningly funny.

The advert it contains for disco hits set to war videos is brilliant, hilarious, and horrifying.

Which I think makes it very good satire.
