Well, I slept in today as well, to be expected really considering yesterday, but, well, I finally left the flat again at 4pm, went to buy the papers. For the first time in a long time I bought more than just my usual Independent. To be precise, I bought the Times, Guardian, FT and Torygraph as well. Skimmed them all so far (been reading weblogs all day, I really like The Snow in Summer and Europhobia), and The Times wins 'best map' award at first glance.
I finally dragged myself offline and into the shower after 9pm, and I still haven't eaten a proper meal. Guess Bunkering is out really. Probably a bit silly; 5 days in a row off work by my choice and virtually nil human contact. Then again, I'm not a social animal really, so it's been nice to have a break.
Finally also bought the new NiN album, at first listen, OK, better review if I can be arsed; I really need to get my car stereo plugged back in. Also bought the B5 Crusade series DVDs (
nadriel, I'm now unlikely to be back in London until June, I can either post your DVDs or give them to
mapp so he can return them when he next travels? Let me know).
The bags were a bit heavy when I walked up to GW to see the guys, so before elaving I went through them and took out the crap I'm not interested in. Telegraph won 'most pointless bits I didn't want' award, 6 separate supplements, OTOH, Independent only had one, the rest is now absorbed into the main paper. Why have weekend papers got so bloated? I want a newspaper, not lifestyle supplements, travel guidance, money advice, etc. Why one of them (preferably the Indy) doesn't just do a 'standard' paper at the normal weekday price is beyond me, maybe I should suggest it to them. So, load lightened, and a decent chat to Anthony and Alan (be warned Exeter GW types, he's on his way up there for 2 months soon; I've let him know how to deal with you).
Got back, read lots of weblogs, and generally kept thinking about the results. Overall, reasonably happy; of the three main parties, we came out best I think, but nowhere near what I was hoping for. Snow in Summer said it best; "Sinn Fein and DUP win, everyone else loses". So true. The NI results are scary; peace process under current plans shows little liklihood of getting back on track, hope it doesn't go back again.
Well, Reith lectures are on, been a great series as ever. More reading of papers planned now for the evening; off to GameSoc tomorrow, to play
mapp and
iamseph at 40K. First time I've been invloved in a game with either of them, so about time. Should be fun; the worst that can happen is we spend the afternoon arguing over rules...
There's also an x-net social at the Impy tomorrow evening, if the game finishes, I might go along. Might.
