My CD copy of the 1812 got lent to a complete scumbag who still owes me many things unfortunately, probably ought to get hold of a new copy at some point. I've got it on the V for Vendetta DVD so can always watch it in combination with Commons pyrotechnics so I'm not completely deprived.

Meh. I've always thought that the 1812 overture was a prime example of using a sledgehammer to crack a nut, and if Tchaikovsky had been a slightly better composer he wouldn't have needed cannons to make a decent impact.

Meh, philistine; cannons are cool.

And also, the presence of cannons in the peice allowed me to get a bunch of kids who "hate classical" to listen to it at an event once, and then declare they were wrong about classical. Which I thought was a result.
