Tubewhore does Hong Kong

Been meaning to put up a big plug for tubewhore for ages--the project of visiting every single tube station and take pictures, etc would be interesting enough anyway. That the person doing it (pvcdiva) is a cute goth with pink hair and a taste for pvc dresses is an added bonus. So go have a look around her archives, definitely worth the time.

Today, however, she's in Hong Kong on holiday. And she's gone nuts:

there's obviously something deeply wrong in my brain in that on arrival here I was most excited to discover the subway system was small enough to get collected in the limited time I have here. This is patently bonkers given all the other possibilities available to me in HK. Like a jet lag massage in an excruciatingly fancy hotel.

I now have in my possession a map of the Hong Kong tube network. I've been here since about seven AM local time and have knocked out two tube stops already.

So, yeah, that's going to be worth watching, right?

For what she is trying to achieve, Hong Kong is one of the best places I'd imagine to try it, because as she says, the MTR is a pretty small and do-able underground. If she was going to just do that and nothing else, she could probably do it in two days.. I probably visited 3/4 of the stations just traveling normally in 3 weeks.

I love the HK MTR. You really appreciate how much nicer it is when you come back to the grotty London underground, haha.

See, the thing is?

You've only seen the Underground last few years. Compared to what it was like when I first came up here (Thatcher era), it's clean and tidy.

But yeah, it's still got a long way to go.

I keep meaning to go join her on one of her days up here, but they always seem to be while I'm elsewhere. Ah well.

I second this. I keep marvelling every time I go to visit London how much better looked after and nicer everything is than is was ten years ago.
