Of course, the anti-catholic/anti-popery vitriol is a little, well, disturbing by todays tastes (to say the least), but the fear of tyranny was well founded, if not actually as linked to catholicism as propagandists led the populace to believe. England's never really supported tyrants for too long, and we do tend to like a good party...

Was watching it last night, knew it was set around the 5th, but had forgotten the opening scenes were late night Nov 4th, so it was actually just past midnight when I watched the bit where he blows up the Bailey at midnight.

But yeah, I do still like it, really ought to get the book.

The book is about a million times better. However, its political tendency is completely different - the film is essentially US-liberal, but the book is anarchist all the way. The film is against tyranny, the book against government. It's also one of the greatest achievements in comic art.

This country, and indeed America, needs a change of parliament, and preferably not just the Tory/Labour parties... why is it they always seem to turn into eachother whenever one is in power?
I sadly don't think the lib dems will get it this year, yet again.

Thankfully the US is deffinately getting a new president next election.

It's the system that's the problem, not the specific parties—it takes a lot of effort at times for me to reign in my anarchist tendencies, Burke was right, unfortunately.

New President, but unfortunately not a new system, and their system is significantly worse than ours :-(

Well, yes, very wrong, which is why it works, just as ID4 blowing up the White House worked. In context, it's a brilliant, and iconic, bit of cinema, was very pleased to find it on YT fairly easily.

See, I knew I didn't have to tell you why getting home for 6 was essential.

But it was a seriously long route—if I reversed it, the people at the beginning would ring up to complain :-(

Loved it though, might be worth walking the route at some point, some of the nicer bits of scenery in the area. Wonder if the lunatics with the train in the back garden are still there?

I haven't seen V For Vendetta - I enjoyed those clips a lot!

I was amused that the Independent profiled Guido today.

I highly recommend the film. For the average viewer, it's a meh film. For the politically engaged broadly anti-state liberal, it's very (very) good, and the deliberate parallels with Blair are fairly obvious if you look.

Oh, and Stephen Fry is brilliant.
