I am, as I'm sure is well, a remarkably modest man. I would, for example, never dream of having a category tag for my journal called 'showing off', for that would be vulgar. And that the most popular item under discussion in the most recent news post, and being linked to and discussed all over the site is my idea is, of course, something that merely provokes a modest smile.

For I am a humble and modest man. Right?

So, I'd like a favour from you, my friends and readers. Well, a sub-set of you, anyway. If you're a paid user, you can now edit coments you've made on the site. No more annoying typos. You can also change the userpic for a comment, so no more accidentally selecting the wrong picture, or forgetting to go for your default. And when you do this, anyone that would've been notified of the comment gets notification of the eidt (for I am cunning). And you can't edit a comment after it's been replied to (for I do not like feeding the trolls).

Thing is? While I can test edit comments? I haven't seen a notification of an edit yet. So, y'know, if you've a paid account? Comment away. Edit away, entertain me a bit—I'll repost any particularly amusing uses of the edit feature. I'm especially interested in seeing changed userpics.

Oh, you can send PMs to each other on site now, and select who can send them to you. You might want to go turn on e-notifcation of them, it defaults to off. And for those of you that hate the message centre, the direct link to just your inbox is right here. *cough*A certain person has a message waiting*cough*

Like some others, I was sufficiently dissatisfied with recent events in LJ-land, that I didn't renew my paid account.

I am impressed with you pushing for the comment editing though. :)

I'm debating whether to go back to paid status.

The work was mostly by coffeechica and janinedog, but yeah, the idea was a nice combination of things—I see to have good ideas in the shower fairly regularly, probably ought to stop taking as many baths, wake the brain up.

My decision to renew was taken from me, got an anonymous gift while I was thinking it all through, grateful, but it just defers the decision again.

Heh-fix typos and change the userpic. Bonus.

Turn on notifications for comments that you post, write a comment, edit it and presto! You have a notification of an edit!

(Not that you have to any more, of course, since you've got others to do it for you, but I am just as modest as you are and enjoy showing off.)

To add something of substance, I had heard that this was going to happen (from you, actually), but I had not heard that it had gone into effect, since I do not watch the LJ news communities or anything.

I recommend the_lj_herald if you watch no others--a bunch of volunteers do summary posts or main events and significant changes--I watch most of the comms, but many don't, which is why the Herald is good.

But yeah, it's good, overall.

Aye, and a few of them got multiple edits with different icons, so pretty much covered. Not bad overall. The multi multi edit thing could be abusable I guess, but all someone needs do is reply to stop it.

Ah, but the email notification is different for an edited comment. As SB's down, I might not have time to do an immediate follow up, but it's not actually a bad way of doing it.

Yes, you know that the comment hasn’t really been edited, but anyone who doesn’t get notified for the comment doesn’t.

The only reason I can think of for wanting to fake it is to make it appear as if I had access to the net at a time I didn’t.

It offends my design sense that it doesn’t appear with the rest of the metadata, is all.

Ah, but I see a little notice appears telling people you've edited your comment, so they'll still know I'm a maroon, but they'll just have to guess what form my maroonism originally took! :)

Am failing to see any way in which this facility offers something not available via email or instant messaging...

Allows contacting people you haven't got the contact details of already--I haven't got the email address of about half my friends list for example.

Also good for community moderators if oyu want to find out more about someone discretely, or for when 'random person #25' adds you and you want to know who they are (for example, I knew who pashazade was immediately, but hano was less obvious).

IT's not a great function, and for most of us it's useless, but for moderators and similar it might be useful.
