So, I haven't been doing my normal Doctor Who reaction polls so far, partially because I've been a bit bored of the whole thing, partially because I've got a bit of writers block and aren't writing much of anything, and partially because, well, Donna is annoying me and Tennant isn't getting much better. Haveing said that, tonights was actually OK, so much that I want to watch it again and try to make a more informed judgement, while trying to ignore Donna's repeating-herself-three-times annoyingness.

So, well, here's a poll for the first three episodes so far.

[Poll #1173946]

As usual, I really want to like it, but I'm just getting jaded. I really like Tennant as a bloke in the Confidentials, I just dislike the way he plays the Doctor. I don't like Tate at all, and never have. Planet of the Ood was better than the previous two, and that it had humans as The Bad Guys and Cpt Darling being A Git is cool. I shall watch it again, but I'm not sure I'm watching out of anything other than a sense of obligation and a hope it'll get better.

Still, next week has Martha, Unit and the Sontarans. They can't mess that up. Can they?

I realize I haven't answered the poll for the one episode this series that I have properly seen, but that's because I feel too ambiguous about it to answer "yes" or "no," (and however unpopular it may make me, I do not think the giant brain is inherently cool). I'm nearly finished with my own rambly reaction to tonight's episode, though.

Well mine's as coherent as it can ever get, so it's done. :)

I can't believe I'm writing about Doctor Who! Andrew will be so pleased at what he's done to me. :)

The smugness is what makes Tennant a good Doctor. I'm sure that it will be his eventual downfall too. It may split opinions but there you go.

Tate, hopefully, will calm down a bit. So far... she's not done much in the way of useful. At least she's not a cold fish like Martha or a soppy lovestruck puppy like Rose.

However I am worried about the direction the scripts are going in. We've had the same plot device used 3 episodes running! At least next week's looks to be better.

I'm actually starting to like Donna. I'm not a fan of Tate, but in this case she sorta works. Its probably because its refreshing not to have a companion who isn't "OMG in luv wiv teh Doktor".

I liked Donna to begin with but even though she's not in love with the Doctor (Not Ever) they're starting to annoy me with the "Oh this is all so terrible, Doctor, how do you cope?" stuff.

I want to like it too, and I do generally like the monsters and the acton, but the emotional stuff is so extraordinarily heavy-handed, and I don't know why they're so bad at it.

I'm not a fan of Tate either but to me, she's definitely proved that she has more scope than her flat characters in her show. That said, I wish that it had been a different actress playing Donna because Tate lapses into that one character in her show I want to beat to death with a rusty shovel.

Yeah, series 4 is proving a bit 'meh' for me as well. To be fair it hasn't been absolutely awful (yet) and there've been a few good moments, but just as equally, I've not seen anything I'd buy the DVD of as yet.

Still, there are more episodes to go...

I thought Ood was the least good out of the 3 and I'd have voted one down from Good for Ood if there was such an option; death by being thrown "into" a giant brain was far sillier than anything in 1&2. Some reference to Roman slavery would have helped connect 2 and 3, especially as there is no real way that any non-TV adventures can be slotted in between them.

DT's portrayal of the Tenth Doctor seems increasingly like portrayals elsewhere rather than he was in the 2nd-series. I'm specifically thinking of the Doctor Who Adventures comic strip, and to a lesser extent the comics in Doctor Who Battles In Time and DWM and the cartoon from Totally. This is particularly true with the hair, but other elements are cartoonish too.

Perhaps it is time for 10's song to end before we get sick of the chorus.
