It's on my backburner right now, and I think the elections a tiny bit more important anyway. Good Luck! (and thank you)

(Oh, and ScreenWipe FTW. I spend a few days watching the series. I've seen nor read nothing more of his, but Screenwipe is Teh Classique.)

As it will be broadcast on the Beeb, and therefore listen again will probably be an option, I'm sure you could make Humphrey Lyttleton Day last all week if you so desired.

I wonder if Stephen Fry could become the new ISIHAC chair? I really do hope that R4 doesn't see this as an excuse to cancel the show...

Hmmm - I'm not sure that's such a good comparison. I thought ISIHAC couldn't continue without Willie Rushton, but it did. It's a team show, and always has been, much like the News Quiz. Home Truths was much more dependent on JP as a narrator for everything.

To be honest, I hardly remember Humph back in the early days when I was listening to it as a Goodies fan...

I'm not sure anyone else can come out with Humph's lines with the air of innocence he managed. Nor do they really pull off the "what the hell am I doing here?" attitude he maintained.

I think it was the 30th anniversary show where one of the regulars said that while you could change panellists, it wouldn't work without Humph.

But that's my point - I don't recall those aspects back in its first 10 years - Humph would've been in his 50s so some wouldn't have worked anyway. I don't actually think they were there, though I'm willing to be corrected.

Humph's autobiography gives the impression that he always had the "what the hell am I doing here" thing going on. I'm less sure about the levels of smut, they might have increased. Alternatively I might have started to get the jokes more often, what with getting older...
