Oasis were the biggest (UK) band of the nineties. They filled stadiums in a way that no other band had done for the best part of a decade and appealed to (basically) a new generation of music listeners. Wonderwall was probably their biggest song.

I mean, I don't particularly like Oasis either, but they were big and lots of people did/do like them. It doesn't surprise me that they're there - TBH the Pistols, Massive Attack and maybe Robbie Williams surprise me more. But you're right in saying that any popular poll will be messed about with because people have short memories.

Personally I think the Beatles are shite, but I seem to be in a rather small minority on that one.
