Bugger, lost track of time, if anyone is watching this, or has watched it when it's done, LMK what it was like?

I'm not expecting fair or balanced coverage, and I fully espect anyone who likes alternative music of any type to be portrayed as a nutjob, but, well, y'never know.

I mean, I'm not a fan of Death Metal, and Slayer, well, suck, but I know at least one perfectly well adjusted death metal fan, and I hate it when media scapegoat minority interests instead of look to root causes; let's face it, Ted Bundy blamed Playboy, Columbine was blamed on RPGs, etc, etc. Ah well.

[Edit:] [livejournal.com profile] tyrell has the key quote from the Independent article that isn't online:
"Heavy metal gigs are some of the most non-violent and accepting spaces in the country. If you want to look for places that give rise to fear, hatred and violence, I suggest you look more closely at Churches, Mosques, Parliamentary Chambers and Council Offices."
- Louise Chambers, media researcher and lecturer.

I thought Columbine was goth music, not RPGs? Mind you, it all seems to blur into one long list of "reasons we won't take responsibility for raising our children"...

Forgot about this as well, caught the end of it. It was pretty balanced and certainly was stating that there was any link. One interviewed person did point out that there are millions of people into metal who don't go out and carry out murder. However, when someone does parents often looks to find and then blame something, rather than admit their child was fucked up well before they found death metal.

The programme did feature a contradictory pair of people from Italy. There was a catholic priest who had found a following because he stated that he could save children from death metal. And then there was the friar who had his own band and went to festivals. Not looking to convert those who were there, just show them something else. I think I know which one is truly carrying out the work of his master!!
