For you? Don't really know what you like, and depends what you've already read. Gaimen, Miéville, Courteney Grimwood are authors I really like currently, assuming you've already read Pratchett and Adams.

Iain M Banks can be fun if you like literary sci-fi, and George RR Martin Game of Thrones/Song of Ice and Fire sequence is just cool.

Or Alastair Reynolds, or Stephen Baxter, or Susanna Clarke.

Read most of Iain M Banks, read an ammount of Pratchett, read Good Omens, and like Gaimen, Not read the others.. and I'll probably look into the Game of Thrones thing :)


So um.. as for books.. yeah.. fantasy, Sci Fi (Player of Games by Banks is a favourite), slight funny leanings are good too (RE Incompetenece(sp? meh))

In that case, Baxter's Time, Space and Origin books are cool, as is Phase Space. I love Reynolds generally.

Kim Stanley Robinson is excellent, esp. the Mars books and Years of Rice and Salt. Beyond that, dunno; have a look at the Storycode thing I linked to a few days back.

The New Shiny Thing linked to it launches Monday I'm told, but that's completely irrelevent.
