So, a new companion...

Well, Billie is replaced. Cool. What wound me up a little though, was the headlines in the newspapers. The new companion was going to get coverage, but even the Independent managed to make the "big news" into her being "his first black assistant". So what? It doesn't surprise me that the Mail emphasises it, but it's in all the print media stories. Newsflash, the show hasn't been on air much since the 1980s, so there have barely been any assistants, regardless of ancestry. Let face it.

What we want from the new assistant

1. Able to act
2. Work well with Tennant
3. Look bloody good

So, on point 1, Russel T:

Watching her during filming confirmed what an exciting new talent she was

Point 2? David Tennant:

Freema was a joy to work with in episode 12 of the current series.

"She is not only very talented and very beautiful, she's great fun

Ok luvvies, the mutual appreciation is fine and dandy, but, y'know. OTOH, Russel T does have a good eye for this sort of thing, right? As for point 3? Yes Please. Possibly a little skinny from the publicity shots, but, y'know, actress, to be expected.

Does anyone really care about her skin colour?

I am pointedly not reading this LJ post and came straight to the comments page after reading the first 4 words of this entry.

I know most people will have seen the episode already, but others might have missed it at the weekend, and are waiting for the Friday repeat :P

Actually, I've downloaded it, but haven't had time to watch it yet (that's a job for the early hours of the morning). Even so, a cut would be appreciated for anything spoilerish

Haven't watched any episodes of series 2 yet, I'm waiting for the DVDs, so no spoilers at all.

Billie is leaving, that's all we know, the new girl is, well, worth looking at...

I perhaps ought to cut more, but, well, swamped at work so tired.
