What I did yesterday/today...

Yesterday? I burnt my finger. That'd be the finger I mostly balance a pen on while writing as well. Today?
I signed 400 Christmas cards.
As if I didn't have an intense loathing of the things already, signing 400 of them isn't fun at the best of times. Still, made a change from moving information around a computer all day.
Came home, watched a pile of Angel DVDs. Was going to post about the new update page (short version: I like it, it's an improved UI and they're taking on feedback. Plus, the RTE actually works. Yes, I normally hand code everything, but I can copy/paste formatted text now, and then go back to hand coding.
LJ's UI overall stinks. Horizon improves it, Vertigo will be even better, and the new update page will be more intuitive to newer users and reduce likelihood of posting to the wrong journal/community.
Bah. Seems like I've posted about it anyway. It also gives more space for them to add new features. Which is also good.

Date: 2006-Dec-15, Friday 23:06 (UTC)I had to do them for work. You can have a work one if you like, I signed too many.
Ultimately, I don't like em. I get them, and I've got 3 next to me, and 5 on my office desk. still in the envelopes. Can't be bothered.
I have however, come to a conclusion. I don't do Christmas. I do Sol Invictus on the birthday of Mithras. It's the same thing, just with more feasting.
Actually; question. Jesus wasn't born Dec 25th, the date was chosen for other reasons. Is March the generally accepted actual date?

Date: 2006-Dec-16, Saturday 17:17 (UTC)SRSLY, we don't get snow in the bay, microclimate blocks it out, very weird.
Actually, liturgical definitions are good; I actually like to be informed of stuff, but it's not something I'd obsess over...
I've been planning a post for somewhere about Christmas being banned. Haven't got it fully fleshed out yet, but "it's a case of puritan correctness gone mad" will be in there somewhere...

Date: 2006-Dec-16, Saturday 22:27 (UTC)1. Christmas has been hijacked by materialism, and part of this is quite likely due to the fact that Christianity hijacked someone else's festival first.
2. There is no particularly good reason why Christmas should be in December. As you say, we don't know when Jesus was born, and it can't have been all that cold because the shepherds were out all night.
3. There is a yawning gap in the Church year between Trinity and Advent (bar a few saints' days) where there is nothing but green (as opposed to red, purple, white, etc) for months on end. Green is for Ordinary Time, and, to be quite frank, ordinary is what it is. There would be plenty of room for Christmas.
It would mean a huge disruption, of course, but there's no specifically liturgical or theological objection to it so far as I can see.
Looking forward to your 'puritan correctness'!
