Like a line from a Bauhaus song...
2007-Jan-14, Sunday 19:44OK then.
_drop_zone_ was cool last night, was good to see many Reading friends again, and indeed meet people I'd heard about or talked to but not actually met before. I have no idea how much I drank, what I will say is that, for a bourbon, Maker's Mark is actually quite drinkable,
faeriecween was right about that.
Consequently, I'm horribly hung over and not in the mood to think much, even now. Didn't get the really good flat I went to see Friday, they want someone with a full time job, and the other place appeared to be in a building that was actually worse than the one I currenlty live in in Torquay. Now, I live there because, for the price, it's a huge flat. But to pay significantly more for a much smaller room with a kitchen (room) smaller than the kitchenette at mny current place, to be hared by 4 people? I think not, there are bigger bedsits and studios around for similiar prices.
Anyway, have now finished reading Susanna Clarke's Ladies of Grace Adieu, a collection of short stories written before she wrote Strange and Norrell. Hey, guess what? I loved it, it's great, so very cool. And the language she uses and her writing style switch depending on the era the story is set, and comes across very well. Definately worth a fread, but, um, given Strange and Norrell is now in the Waterstone's modern classics line for £2.99, if you haven't already got and read it, do so, right? There. That's like the 4th time I've told people to read the book now, so there we go.
I've also bought, started and finished
scalzi's Old Man's War yesterday and today (train journeys are great for reading I'm finding), and it was actually, I think, better than I was expecting. I'll try and write a review when I'm coherent again, but that won't be today. Suffice to say, for those that have read it, I want a BrainPal.
Anyway, Mike is snoring the other side of the room, I'm going to curl up in a corner and possibly watch some DVDs; I both got my Firefly back (yay!) and borrowed some new ones from Christy. Was good to meet people last night, and thanks to all for the chats, drinks, etc. In the meantime, I offer for your entertainment pleasure, conclusive proff that
blogthings quiz results are completely and utterly suspect and normally far from reality.
Oh, also? To whichever anonymous person bought me the extra userpics bolt on as a gift? Thanks! I'm scared a little, but thanks anyway.

Date: 2007-Jan-15, Monday 16:06 (UTC)It's £900 a month I believe, so too high. Just cause the current person is moving out in a few months. Should it be within price range for when sharing, I'd describe it as suitable for a couple to share, but less suitable for roommates - you could use the living room/general space area as a 2nd bedroom, but whoever was sleeping there would have to be willing to put up with the other one wandering through if they happened to want a midnight snack, as it's the only way into the kitchen.
