I concur with [livejournal.com profile] calapine:
Well, I guess I was wrong when I thought I was looking forward to the new series before. Dude!
Todays Indy on Sunday has an interview with John Simm of Sam Tyler/Life on Mars fame in which a few cool things are revealed:
he's just been cast in Dr Who - as the Master, the Doctor's evil nemesis. He'll be quite brilliant, of course, but heaven knows how he'll cope with a whole new horde of obsessive Tardis fans.
(Also via).

How cool is that? In other news, I've been messing around with my icons, and have a question. Those of you that use your own picture as a default, do you ever get used to seeing your own face staring back at you? I'm really not sure I like it.

Also, phone still borked, would whoever is texting me please stop as I CAN'T READ THEM! Will get a new handset when I'm next in the vicinity of a phone shop. It does make trying to contact people a bit of a pain, I may need to do a "what is your number" post (again)...

Mine's modified enough not to be unnatural to see it staring back (supposed to be inspired by Peter Gabriel's third album cover (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Gabriel_%28III%29)). As I use Semagic which rotates userpics I don't see it that much. The main reason for having it is to identify me better as that is the one that shows up on my profile. I also seldom use it although it appears on all the old posts before I had more than one userpic.

I had this one as my default pic for ages, but as it's colour-inverted, flipped left to right and upside down, it doesn't really look like me at all, anymore, so that never really bothered me.

I did it simply for the weirdness value; on that count at least, it has been a complete success!

"Those of you that use your own picture as a default, do you ever get used to seeing your own face staring back at you? I'm really not sure I like it."

That's the reason why none of my personal pics are defaults. They're good to scatter amongst people's journals every now and again, but I like a little variety. My default pic is one of the Fuzzles from Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee going bananas...purely because I like the pic!

Wow, thanks for the link. I do hope that he makes a good master and that a good writer is always involved in master stories.

Now...given that the comic-book rules of death apply in the Dr. Who universe.... Odds that Davros will feature before the end of series 4? Before the end of series 3?

No way! C'mon, it's space opera! It's all about OTT ludicrous characters. IMHO Davros was better than the master in his own time. They actually have so much in common incl. both being broken reflections of the Doctor. The Master and the Doctor both meddle in time, although the Master does so for his own benefit rather than to benefit others. Davros and the Doctor are both scientists, although Davros has no ethics or morals whatsoever.

I'm still hoping for Davros, he can't die enough times, even if he comes back even more bitter and angry each time.
