It appears from entries on a few posts rad today that some of you are planning to celebrate St Patrick's Day this evening. Um, why? St Patrick's Day was last Saturday. Of course, I care not for such things but I was called upon to settle an argument at the bar last Saturday, one of the regulars was drinking Guinness, which was most out of character—it was explained why, and no one believed her, so I had to look it up online. (ETA: The Beeb site has a longer and better researched article on the same topic it seems)

Apparently they change it every so often as it's not allowed to happen during Holy Week (which has something to do with Eostre this weekend I'm given to understand), so it gets moved every so often. Looks like a bunch of marketeers missed a trick to not run it last Saturday. He was a bit weird anyway, why would you want to banish snakes?

So, y'know, have a very happy Monday anyway.  You might as well eat drink and be merry if you feel like it, why do you need some dead bloke to give you an excuse?

It really is quite funny how many people (and alleged Irish pubs) missed the mark on that one!

Apparently the next time St. Pat's falls during Holy Week isn't until 2160...so they're not going to make this mistake again!

Next you'll be telling me that 2000 wasn't the millenium, Santa doesn't exist, and that we're all alone in a godless universe!

Bez really did dance like a complete twat, didn't he?

Ah, but Google's changed their home page logo so it must be St Patrick's day. I'm quite thankful they have, as one of our sites has also gone "month=3, day=17 so logo=shamrocky" and I can't be arsed changing it.

Regarding the time of year, I like Jamie Oliver's line in the Sainsbury's adverts: "To me, Easter means the start of Spring, and it wouldn't be the same without hot cross buns".

Except you can buy them all year round, so it means nothing. I think I had some at Christmas.

I don't consider St. Patrick's Day a religious holiday anyway; so, fuck the Pope!

Me, I don't care what the religious twats have to say about it, Ha. we'll celebrate when we wanna, and the good ol' RCC can go screw itself!

This IS the same RCC that instigated the Inquisition, and more recently turned a blind eye to Hitler's shenanigans, so I really don't think they've got much say in what I do.

yes, I had been reminded by the more religious ones at work that St. Patrick's Day falls during holy week, so what was I going to do? I said "I'm going to eat a big hunk of red meat, drink a beer, and flip off the pope".
I've never seen their eyes so wide.
