Um...

Meh. Watched it twice now. But when I went to fill in the [livejournal.com profile] diggerdydum reaction poll, the "what was the best bit?" question? Completely stumped me.

Sure, there were some nice set pieces, some funny bits and similar, but nothing stood out and made me go "cool!". Combine that with the Return of the King style multiple endings and you've got an extended episode with enough plot for about 30 minutes.

Dear Rusty, in your next job, can you learn how to write a climax and an ending please? Your set ups are great, it's just, well, meh.

Can't be arsed thinking up a reaction poll, plan to do a whole season poll tomorrow, what'd you lot think?

Ah, but that would be enough plot for at least 2x30 minutes in Old Who.

I guess RTD's origins in popular serial haven't really let him develop climax-writing skills. Although I have yet to see That Corrie Special Set On A Cruise Ship, which may well end with them all still on the ship with their final destination a few days away.

What, Daleks shouting in German wasn't enough to register as even a blip on the cool-ometer?

Not being a Dr Who fan for the first few new series (in fact being very much anti new Dr Who actually)I really enjoyed parts of this series, (Silence in the Library being the top scoring episode). I thought this finale was surprisingly well done, tying up a lot of loose ends and also allowing Rose and the Doctor the resolution they needed whilst still allowing the original Doctor to remain "untouched" as it were.

***EDIT: Also win! Daleks in German! German I could (partially) understand! Wooooo!
