OK, testing again. Using the Dreamwidth poll wizard, then looking to see if/how polls crosspost to LJ. Odds are you'll need to login with OpenID to vote, etc, but it's about time you did that anyway.

Ah, security doesn't quite work. If I set it as friends only, it'll be locked on DW but not on LJ. No matter, though, as my DW account will be entirely public.

That shouldn't happen. Also, Semagic can be set to cross post, but that would require, y'know, using Semagic, which I've always found annoying and fugly.

But if you post to DW using SEM, then edit the post, you can then tell it to cross post.

Won't crosspost polls directly though, different codebase, and I prefer having a link here I think.

Yes, I agree. But some of the wizards look quite useful, the poll wizard is a lot easier than the web form.

So using the wizard then switching back to HTML makes sense.

Heh, good good. Easy poll making would be much nicer than learning the codes (or embedding them with insets in ljaddons which is what I'll do when I catch up).

I'd never used it before, zvi mentioned the wizard in a comment on getting_started and I thought I'd give it a go. It's actually impressive.

Not that I'll use it often, but it's good for people without HTML codes built into muscle memory.

I have a suspicion that when I said "yes, I know the Rich Text poll wizard exists" I may have been thinking of the wrong thing. I was thinking of the page which generates poll code, but it's not part of the Rich Text editor functionality. I think you're implying there's a poll code generator that's even smarter than the one I know!

I am, yes. I found out about it in a comment somewhere, this post is the result of trying it and going "ooh, shiny".

Go to the post an entry page, and switch to the Rich Text editor, then click on the polls option (it's in the middle, has a bar graph).

It are shiny and user friendly and didn't frustrate me with annoyance too often (although it needs a 'next' button on the front page).

This implies that some of those ticking the "I knew it existed" are thinking of the crappy old bad UI poll creator page.

This is why I like DW, they're trying to make the cool stuff that's always been there actually findable.

As you probably already know, the poll didn't show up on LJ, but as my ticking shows, at least those from LJ can use your poll. Should they be told?
