If there's any truth in this whatsoever, then Murdoch's global media empire may be in trouble. Does the US have a "fit and proper person" equivalent test for media ownership?

If we did, it would be to keep them out.

We don't. But we do have laws about bribing foreign officials — and the Met Police qualify as foreign officials — under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Keep in mind the U.S. Supreme Court has declared corporations as "persons", which means where once the feds might go against the officers of a company, they can now go against a corporation as if it were an individual. *rubs hands with glee*

On top of that, there might be wiretapping charges as well. We'll have to see how it plays out. Either way, I predict howling on FOX about the unfairness of it all and screams of "free speech free speech!" should the feds decide to press charges.

Heh, so because corps have legal identity, they can be taken down for actions overseas? That could be very very fun to watch.

And I always like it when the "law and order" brigade then start crying "freedom of speech" when it turns out it's them making the most breaches of the laws.
