So here it is: Daniel 'Harry Potter' Radcliffe is all set to staras Alan Strang in Equus when it comes to the West End next year.

In case you haven't read it, we aren't really spoling anything for you if we say that Strang's favourite hobby is sneaking around stabbing horse's in the eyes with big metal spikes. Not exactly quidditch is it?

There's also a scene in the play which requires the actor playing Strang to ride a horse naked.

I await, with bemusement and morbid fascination, the Harry Potter / Equus fan fiction. Then again, the idea that something I created might inspire people to write bad pornography involving my characters would put me off ever publishing anything.

I spend weeks, months, years working out every aspect of my fictional character. I consider every word in every bit of dialogue. I invest a little bit of myself and a lot of my time to get a book written, and that's before you even get into the murky waters of publishing.

Somebody spends ten minutes writing how your character is getting fisted by somebody from Star Trek.

My work, like that character on the receiving end of Spock's less-than-tender ministrations, is violated.

I saw this in the paper today. Apparently Strang has to simulate a sex act whilst on said horse! Should be interesting!!

The film (made in the '70s) had more than a bit of nudity and weirdness it seems.

Completely off topic- but thanks for checking me out. Interests-wise we have England, London, Radio 4 and socialism in common, which is pretty good.

I worry about the "goth" stuff though.

Meh, goth is no more or less offputting than, for example, morris dancing. Besides, it's a form of post-punk...

I could actually add a fair few of your interests onto mine, but, well, limit nearly got rached awhileback and I stopped adding more.

I just added the hating george galloway one; it was more visceral dislike until his speech last weekend, "we are all hizbullah" tipped me over.
