Lunatic petitioners

K, my post earlier about petitions prompted Jennie to do one of her irregular petitions expiring soon round-ups so I couldn't resist the temptation to have a look at the rejected petitions list because, given some of those that have got through, the rejections must be comedy gold. So we have Petition to: Relocate the Nelson Mandela statue to where it belongs. which has the following notice:

South Africa... Stautes in London should be reserved for British heroes and heroines. TO REJECT THIS PETITION AFTER IT HAD ALREADY BEEN PUBLISHED AND GAINED 133 SIGNATORIES IS NOTHING MORE THAN POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD AND DEFINITELY UNDEMOCRATIC.

Someone ought to tell this bloke that shouting and phrases such as"political correctness gone mad" are way within an acceptable definition of "intemperate", n'est ce pas?

I especially like how "Where it belongs" isn't mentioned, unless I'm missing that part.

It's the first line of the extra information, "South Africa". Apparently we're allowed to scatter London with Brits who carried out atrocities overseas, but a man born in British territory (and thus born a subject of The British monarch) isn't allowed to be honored in London.

It's a nice little highlight that reminds us it's not just your side of the pond that has it's cranks and loons. We just avoid electing them to high office ;-)

the petitions on there are completly random - take this one for example;

created by some lovely people hear in lincoln who want the PM to make sure that the city council make sure that at christmas we have an outdoor ice rink in the city
so far its been signed by a grand total of 54 people, that impressive number achieved after people read about it in the local paper :)

Well, what you need is to get it promoted via local blogs and Focus leaflets, obviously.

Alternatively, it's really nothing to do with the PM given that should be a local issue ;-)

But yeah, the petitions are very random. Sometimes great, sometimes bloody stupid. Isn't politics wonderful?

well me and most people agree with the latter, which is probably why there are only 54 signatures although im surprised that many people have signed up, coz obviously Gordon Brown gives a damm about what is going on here in Lincoln :)
