K, my post earlier about petitions prompted Jennie to do one of her irregular petitions expiring soon round-ups so I couldn't resist the temptation to have a look at the rejected petitions list because, given some of those that have got through, the rejections must be comedy gold. So we have Petition to: Relocate the Nelson Mandela statue to where it belongs. which has the following notice:
This petition has been rejected because:

* It contained language which is offensive, intemperate, or provocative
which prompted the creator to edit it to say:

South Africa... Stautes in London should be reserved for British heroes and heroines. TO REJECT THIS PETITION AFTER IT HAD ALREADY BEEN PUBLISHED AND GAINED 133 SIGNATORIES IS NOTHING MORE THAN POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD AND DEFINITELY UNDEMOCRATIC.
Someone ought to tell this bloke that shouting and phrases such as"political correctness gone mad" are way within an acceptable definition of "intemperate", n'est ce pas?

Petition to: ensure that the implementation of Single Status and job evaluation is conducted fairly and transparently, and does NOT mean that local authority employees are forced to take substantial pay cuts.

Because making sure people are given equal pay for work of equal value to a local authority is a Good Thing. But using it as a rationale for cutting the pay of a lot of underpaid harassed staff is most certainly not.

Petition to: reverse the decision to cut vital UK contributions to Particle Physics and Astronomy.

If you're not sure why, read [livejournal.com profile] purplecthulhu's recent entries, or just go look at the signatory list. The Arts Council mess was bad enough, but that's just "stuff wot I like". This is "stuff wot we all need" FFS. G'night all.

The odds of [livejournal.com profile] draxar and [livejournal.com profile] dainul not having noticed this already are small, but just in case, warrenellis.com » Blog Archive » TRANSMETROPOLITAN: Monoculture.

Yup, my mates design project just got picked up by [livejournal.com profile] warrenellis, who seems happy to see is. Külness. Well done Mr Pink.

Actually, might as well post these rather than mailing you. [livejournal.com profile] d_notice_fd moved to London just before I did, I'd been reading his blog for ages before that, and he's ended up living around the corner. He writes a lot about SOCPA, and attended the All-day Lone Protest, his Flickr photostream has stuff, and I especially like this placard...

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] snapesbabe links to this petition and has more links and info.
