OK, it's 2.30am and I'm wide awake thanks to a very ill 4-year-old, who's now off to the hospital with Mum and Granpa. So random amusements before I go to clear up.

Via a locked post from a normally great source of info, a rather off-the-wall webcomic, no ongoing plot, just many many silly vignettes, this one is class:

And in good news for those of us still using the place, Facebook has woken up to the application spam problem and given many many ways to fix it. I reject almost all invites out of hand these days, I never did want to be a bloody vampire thankee muchly, and I definitely don't want to find out how gay I am. Of course, that half of the apps are made by data miners, spammers and arseholes makes me even more cautious, I'll stick to the ones that are actually useful. Or made by people I trust.

Meh, rambling. The rest of these I got from random people and don't appear to have saved who from, bit of a backlog. Long term readers will know I tend to like remakes, re-imaginings and new versions of old classics, so that they're redoing The Day the Earth Stood Still could be a good thing. Except they've cast Keanu as Klaatu. All aboard the failboat now? I don't recall ever seeing that boy act. Ah well. Indiana Jones IV: I need a pension is on its way, I'm looking forward to it, but it appears I need a companion, any volunteers? Jennie thinks, and I quote, that it's mysogonistic boy's own adventure bollocks, so is refusing, which is fair. Given that exactly the same can be said for Bond and she's a huge fan I don't really get it, and that it's boy's own adventure bollocks is surely the entire point? Anyway, aaronace gives us a nice fan-mix of the theme tune with clips from all the films. I liked it anyway. This one's a bit late, but meh. Some random bloke's guide to a succesful relationship and not being that ex. Think I mostly agree, opinions? Last up, how to make money in an era where copies can be made for free.

How many movies Keanu was in have actually 'failed'?

How many have actually been good? Movies succeed and fail for a number of reasons. Keanu-in-action-adventure will get a fairly good demographic regardless, but it doesn't make him suited for the role. Pretty sure the Matrix would've been a lot better with an actual actor in the lead role. OTOH, Bill and Ted was great and suited him well.

Until last night I would have agreed with you re: Keanu being a crap actor. I hope "A Scanner Darkly" was not a blip. I mean, Family Guy got it fairly right with the woodpecker on Keanu's head when he meets Brian at a party...

I haven't seen Scanner Darkly yet, I think I was partially put off because it was him in a serious role and also I didn't get around to it.

I have not seen that, but I think that I should. Perhaps he is maturing into a proper actor finally.

On the other hand perhaps he's just been on a winning streak when it comes to scripts (insert actor vs scriptwriter rant. I am a scriptwriter, tho not my trade unfortunately)

She is in fact much much better this morning, happy and bouncy and complained I didn't get her a yoghurt from the fridge when I got mine. Given she couldn't touch food yesterday, that's really good. But danke, appreciated.

Why don't facebook just give us an option in our profile to block all application requests straight off? There are so many different types of applications that I'm still having to reject lots. Hopefully it'll get better as they say, with the not trapping users to invite..

They can't blokc it completely because they need the revenue from the shared ad revenue thing, apps give them loads of cash.

I'd prefer it if you had to do something like message each invitee, so you can tell people why they might like it and what it's good for. I think the way they're doing it, with the reinforcement circle, could be a good scheme—worthy apps will make sure they don't piss off users, etc. D'you do much Game Theory on your course? This scheme was definitely set up by someone that has.

I don't entirely agree with the valentine's day bit.

I don't resent it, its just a reminder that I'm single. On billboards, for about a month beforehand. I certainly agree with reclaiming it for your own purposes, and the pettyness of resenting other people for being happy.

No, he doesn't. That's a rhetorical device, and it's used well. He's saying that attacking a holiday (which, if you recall, I dislike) simply because you're single is pretty pointless, and that therefore you need to either accept other people can be happy.

I was never bothered by other people being happy or together, it was the commercialised bullshit that got to me.

Ball. Why should I pretend I'm not as happy as I am? Be happy for those that are happy and look to make your side better, the holiday/enforced festivity side is grating, but people genuinely happy together and wanting to celebrate it? That's a good thing.

It depends on where the PDAs are. On the tube its irritating, in a bar or restaurant I don't mind so much. And I expect to find them on LJ.

Unfortunately its the sort of thing that were I in a relationship (or at least the first throes of one) I'd probably be guilty of.

Actually I was thinking more in terms of the level of them. Seeing happy couples holding hands or kissing briefly doesn't bug me, but watching people engage in face hockey for ages is not so fun, unless of course, you're into that sort of thing. ;)
