I just read the FAQ for that Haiku meme doing the rounds, and it's very cool. Unfortunately, the first one was great, but Fx crashed on me (I overloaded it) as I tried to post it. Ah well.
i have at least one / murder i will of course not / now it's turnkey )

I did a couple for NLE as well, but they were a bit dull, Haiku versions of entries rather than weird word conglomerations.

I have much clean clothes, have had a nice relaxing day, and am now, definately, writing the article on Cameron that came to me as I was playing Game of Thrones with Chris two weeks ago. Definately, I'm writing it now. Well, ok, I'm maybe going to log in in a bit and try to type the first draft. Maybe.

um, oops?

Last night, after [livejournal.com profile] draich_goch dropped me off to collect the car (thx mate), I went food shopping then went home. As I was cooking, I got a phonecall from my sister, who was obviously upset. Parents are away, she'll be alone in house with Jack, could I come around and stay the night? Of couse, says I, I'll finish eating and come around. Bring some washing she says, have a nice bath.

Good plan I thinks, haven't used parents jacuzzi for years (Dad's a DIY freak), and the launry facilities in my block are limited, to say the least. So I do both.

Now, small thing. I've put all the clothes I brought with me in the wash. Some of it is now drying. I've had a nice long soak. Um. All the clothes. I've put that wish is already washed out to dry on the line, but did so wrapped in a towel and an old t-shirt. I'm supposed to be driving to Exeter now. Um, guys? D'you want me to turn up in a towell, or should I wait until I've got some dry clothes?

Day wasted (again)

Well, after managing to run up 54 hours of overtime in July, my August timesheet (completed yesterday) says I'm owed 0 hours. Mostly because I'm taking random time off. So today, I nursed the hangover, read more of The Historian (which I'm still not convinced on, how can a book about Dracula and E.European history be so dull?), played a bit of Total War and basically did nothing.

Oh, I paid a bill by phone. I was meant to get a bus to Paignton to pick the car up from where I parked it last night. I was also then supposed to go shopping for some real food. Ah well, beans on toast again tonight. Tomorrow, I go to meet [livejournal.com profile] draich_goch to refight the American Civil War in a board game, and possibly play toy soldiers as well. The Kingskerswell club has booked their venue for an all day thing, apparently. Good job they use their mailing list effectively to let the occasional members know eh? Or not, as the case may be.

Oh, Londonist has some cool graffiti here. Well, it will appeal to some readers, anyway. Oh, Torquay was the wettest place in the country today, as [livejournal.com profile] busdriving puts it, Boy; did it rain. Probably not worth leaving the flat, right?

I, am not sober...

Got talked into going on the annual work boat trip (witha attached bar). Apparently you can't call the booze cruises any more, because someone decided that that was "encouraging binge drinking". Right, like Torquay harbourside is normally full of sober people.

Anyway, it was good. I'm a little drunk. Decided to leave before the rest went to the club as a) I hate nightclubs generally, b) Valbonnes is a really bad club c) I was happy, so leave on a high and d) meh, tired.

So, I am not sober, but am happy, and really must remember how good the bay looks at night from a boat, I keep forgetting. Probably ought to go out on the water more often, it's been ages since I went sailing or rowing, which is a bit daft really. Anyway...

Exeter people? Warning...

They let [livejournal.com profile] waka_laka in. Actually, given how crazy you all are, she'll fit in fine. Katie? http://xnet.ex.ac.uk/forums/

Haven't been there much for ages, but they're still pretty good, especially at this time of year. There are a few communities in my u-info worth a look at as well.

Right, works outing on Sunday; I'm not going, but there was an internal quiz, the winner of which gets a £20 bet on the horses. They're all going to Newton Abbot racecourse for races this Sunday.

Half the questions were stats or company history, the rest were easy. Um, guess who wrote the company history marketing bumpf? Guess who does most of the annual stats analysis?

So, even though I'm not going, I get to place a bet on Sunday, my instructions are:
£20 to be placed on a nag of your choosing. If you don't have a race list, you could place your bet by proxy or choose a race number and name the favourite / second favourite (number 3) etc.
So, if anyone knows what form is, or how to choose a horse, or even what websites I could look at to figure out who is racing, etc?

I know someone out there must know this sort of thing...

Via [livejournal.com profile] lithium_doll and [livejournal.com profile] tyrell, go here and look through random quotations until you find 5 that you think reflect who you are or what you believe.

All progress is based upon a universal innate desire on the part of every organism to live beyond its income.
Samuel Butler (1835 - 1902), Notebooks, 1912

Actions have consequences...first rule of life. And the second rule is this - you are the only one responsible for your own actions.
Holly Lisle, Fire In The Mist, 1992

Where we have strong emotions, we're liable to fool ourselves.
Carl Sagan (1934 - 1996), Cosmos (Blues for a Red Planet)

Public opinion is a weak tyrant compared with our own private opinion. What a man thinks of himself, that is which determines, or rather indicates, his fate.
Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862)

It is not worth an intelligent man's time to be in the majority. By definition, there are already enough people to do that.
G. H. Hardy (1877 - 1947)

A liberal is a man too broadminded to take his own side in a quarrel.
Robert Frost (1874 - 1963)

I know, I can't count. So sue me. Besides, I like the last one. Am now recovered from weekend mess, and we eventually got everything sorted. Will write update on [livejournal.com profile] raksaksa's BBQ when I've found the camera cable, but in the meantime, his is here.

OK then. Discussion at [livejournal.com profile] paulatpingu's has determined that we're going to play Doomtown on Sunday at GeekSoc, partially prompted by us all cracking out a set of DT icons in the last few weeks (something I think everyone should do - hint at [livejournal.com profile] nadriel).

In the meantime, [livejournal.com profile] raksaksa is planning a barbecue Saturday, which I'd like to attend. So...

Can someone offer me somewhere to crash Saturday night so I can do both without driving back to Torquay Satruday night? [livejournal.com profile] mapp? Any rooms spare at the Circus currently? Of course, this does mean I have to look at the idea of rebuilding a deck.
matgb: (Work)
OK, posting this one behind a lock for now but...

Spoke to my boss Thursday, he asked me to give him a final decision Monday (tomorrow). My decision? I'll be finishing my current job in December. I'm due a performance bonus, and he's also talking about arranging some sort of pay-off. I'll make sure I've got full details before I give him my decision, of course, but overall, fairly relaxed and happy. It gives me 5 months to finish off, handover, train a replacement and get a new job. Plus, a pay-off will give me enough cash (just) to move somewhere where I'll be happier.

So, 2 questions for you, my wonderful friends list.

Where should I move to?

Let's face it, I'm not actually stuck on any one location, nor am I really that bothered about specific location. Current ideas in my head, in order:
  1. London
  2. Exeter
  3. Leeds
  4. Edinburgh
  5. Germany
  6. Anywhere else
Reasons and rationale )

Question 2?

Gissa job?

More seriously, I've never actually had to look for and apply for a job properly before. I've been incredibly lucky, and every job I've taken I've been offered or been promoted into. So, might as well ask people out there that might possibly know someone offering a decent job. I'll also likely be putting copies of my CV up for feedback over the next few months, I'll need to start in January, but could start earlier if a transitional arrangement could be made.

What I'm looking for/good at )
So, I'm happy to move to anywhere in the country (or Europe), and I want a job that's an interesting challenge I have good transferable skills, but I want out of the industry I'm currently in. Something that interests me in some way would be good, I'm not sure (yet) that I want a direct move into politics of some sort but there is an appeal (it's what my BA is in after all).

Any ideas or suggestions gladly received; I'm not going to start actively looking for a bit, I've got 5 months and I want to relax a little and clear my head.

Summary

I need to figure out where I want to live, and figure out what I want to do. Your advice and opinion welcome.

For now, it's time to shower & shave, eat and get out the door, it's about time I saw my friends in Exeter.

Good things

Both Christy and Jo have posted lists of things that have made them smile today. So, well, it's not a bad idea for a meme, right?

Good things
  1. Via Rohim in a thread at [livejournal.com profile] pickledpolitics I discover that odds are I'm not allergic to sunlight, instead I probably suffer from Photic sneeze reflex.

  2. One of the two annoying obnoxious downstairs neighbours has been moved out. Unfortunately, it was the aggresive stupid one not the loud stupid one, but she's been given a fina warning

  3. My upstairs neighbour managed to find a charity shop selling traditional ice-cube making trays, so I don't need to keep buying bags to make them any more - how insane is it to rip up plastic bags to make ice, all that packaging waste? I like the upstairs neighbour

  4. The summer pressure cooker at work is almost over, now I've merely got to concentrate on keeping the clients happy and not costing the company too much money. assuming the heat doesn't get to me, I may be back to a sensible modd soon

  5. I have friends that are happy. I can do silly little things to make them happy without saying a word. This is good.

  6. Bell's Whiskey over ice, sometimes with lemonade. For this discovery I thank [livejournal.com profile] aliannurai

  7. I'm reading again. The last two weeks I've finished Fforde's The Big Over Easy and Reynold's Century Rain, both of which were very cool. In addition, [livejournal.com profile] nadriel will be pleased to read, I've nearly finished [livejournal.com profile] flemco's Pedestrian Wolves, which is sick, wrong and entertaining, which is what you expect from Mr Grant, right?

  8. The heat may be dying down, at least for a bit. We'll see

  9. Both [livejournal.com profile] theweaselking and [livejournal.com profile] freddiefraggles have actually made me smile by posting pictures of cute animals. I don't do cute animals, so why did it cheer me up?

Overall, I've had two lazy days off doing very little. I had intended to tidy the flat, do some shopping, do some reading, etc. Meh, one out of three is ok, I'm relaxed and calm after a few stressful weeks...

[Poll #772612]

I have a goldfish bowl for an office. The fire exist we used to prop open was removed in the refurnishment. We ahve a flat roof. We have no ventilation.

I have a mild sunlight allergy, and, well, goth, not renowned for liking daylight anyway.

Still, the customers are happy (sort of), although some of the Spanish clients think it's too hot. Look, if the Spanish and Turks think it's too hot? It's too damned hot, gottit?

I'll, um, do the write up/instructions for the Google Bomb later in the week, the votes are in though...

Which is cooler

[livejournal.com profile] sinju asks me matgb - Which is cooler...pirates or Ford Prefect?, to which my response is...

I can't decide. Y'see, Ford, definately cool. Very cool. The man invented the pan-galactic gargle blaster, right? How can that not be cool. But, on the other hand, pirates. So...

[Poll #762673]

The meme in total thing isn't a bad one, I'll try to do it when I'm not, say, in the office at 20.30 on a Wednesday...
