Well, Italy was well worth the journey and the money. Apart from the heat.

Now, I'm known for not being a fan of hot weather; I've never quite got the point of it, why is it supposed to be nice again? Anyway. When the Italians you're with are complaining that it's too hot, then you know it's too hot. Ah well.

Tuesday, the saga of the lost keys )

Journey back was ok, read a lot, never can sleep, then collapsed in bed. The rest of the free time when not at work this week has been watching Battlestar Galactica episodes; the original series. I had forgotten how godawful it truly was. Still, fun.

So, to today; I'd planned to travel to Exeter this afternoon, but, well, I came online while eating lunch and haven't managed to get off again, let alone leave the flat. Ah well; [livejournal.com profile] paulatpingu? I guess I'll need to specifically come up for an arranged game at a set time; now have all Battlestar Galactica to lend out as well, stupid really, am now low on things to watch so B5 would be cool.

Still, overall, a relaxing holiday has put me in a good mood for the absolute hell the next 6 weeks at work is going to be; spent the last year planning for it, now I find out how good I really am.

Well, combining the insomnia, the "burglary" and the apathy has meant I've acheived nothing this weekend except "rest". Not even tidied up, which had been the main plan for today. Ah well.

Did, however, watch the DVDs which arrived Friday morning. Doctor Who disc one is excellent, glad I ordered it, and I can see why people are talking about how great it is, I've even begun to like Billie/Rose. Also, the DVD is itself well put together.

Angel series 5? Good, as expected, amusing, well produced, mostly funny; I especially like the episode where Spike and Angel go to Rome, no idea who "The Immortal" is but, well, funny.

However, what is it with crappy DVD manufacturers that have over the top interactive menues and annoyingly long intros? I had the same issue with Dark Angel as well. Doctor Who, I can just put in the disk and press play. This is good. Angel insists that I wait for a copyright warning to finish on every DVD (I bought it, I paid for it, and I don't copy stuff, stop telling me what I already agree with FFS), but also insists I both select each episode and then confirm I want to watch it and not a 'special feature'.

Given how crappy my TV resolution is, negotiating menues I can't read clearly is tricky. I want to just hit play, the way I can with B5, Crusade, and, IIRC, Firefly. But with Angel I have to go through 2 separate menues and watch a crappy intro between each one.

Stupid. Ah well; back to work tomorrow, not that I'll sleep tonight. I suspect more re-watching is coming on.

If she hadn't asked a question about where to buy a DVD, I'd never have gone to the site. Oops...

What I bought at play.com )

[livejournal.com profile] paulatpingu, I nearly bought some B5 DVDs, but as you're working your way through the set, I figured we ought to start trying to swap stuff. Any Devon people interested in setting up some sort of DVD lending thing? I only got the player a few months ago. Ah well, is spending your money on sci-fi tv series more or less geeky than spending it on CCGs? I kick one addiction and go straight into another. Still haven't bought the flight tickets for Bologna next weekend either.

In other news, um, not much. I'm getting fed up repeating my availabilty to various GW types; "I can do evenings and weekends, I'd rather not work Sunday, I'd prefer it if you gave the hours to people who need the money, I'm always available in an emergency". How hard is that for a manager to understand? I felt a little sorry for the Plymouth manager while we were talking though, he's obviously a careerist, and I didn't have the heart to burst his bubble; "I work here when needed, because it's fun and a break fromt he office. I don't want a career with the company, I helped train both of your current bosses when they started with the company, and I earn more than you do, I don't need the money." I don't think he'd have liked that. Was supposed to work tonight, but I was asked to switch to Thursday instead.

Suits me, meant I could listen to the new Guide episode at first broadcast. Went to Jason's Sunday, played Pirates of the Spanish Main; great game, we've, um, bought a few boats for it; recommend it to anyone who likes the idea of miniature games but, like me, can't be arsed by all the painting bollocks, it's better than the other games they've done because the models actually look reasonably good when put together. That and the Captain Jack Sparrow impressions you can do...

Well, back to catching up with webcomics; to those annoyed by the star wars link in my last post? You didn't have to click it, and, well, I just needed to share the pain. Still haven't completely ruled out London this weekend coming; Mike, if I do come up, I'll find a cheap hotel in town, but likely park near you. Unlikely to happen, but, well, I could do with a break and [livejournal.com profile] kittenfangs is going; bit daft to meet up with a friend who lives in Devon by going to London really...

Well, I booked of the three days surrounding election day as soon as it was announced. I meant to contact the Totnes candidate (Torbay is a shoe-in) and go off campaigning lots, I know I really enjoy campaigning. What have I done so far? Nothing. Today? Watched The Incredibles. Then I watched the commentary!

Just got back in from the shops; bought a pile of junk food to snack out on. Guess I'd better renew my TV licence tomorrow and re-tune the TVs; not going campaigning so I'll watch until dawn.

Unless there's another election addict in Devon that would enjoy my company until the small hours tomorrow night while the results come in?

K, guess what I did Saturday? Yup, I slept. Problem with insomnia and a full time job is you still need to drag your carcass into work each morning during the week, no matter how little sleep you've had. Which means by the weekend you're exhausted, so you catch up on the sleep. Which means your body confirms its opinion that waking up at 2pm is the correct thing to do. And so the cycle perpetuates.

And so to today. My sister rings. Did you go shopping yesterday? What did you get Mum for her birthday?

Panic shopping as the shops close )

£75 in Tesco? I only went in for some bread and some milk... )

That's why I avoid shopping. I hate wondering around looking at things, I just want to grab and go. Which means I don't stop myself from grabbing stuff. I've been so close to buying a laptop just because it looks nice a few times too many recently...

Anyway, in election news, Kilroy has been caught out as a huge, vote rigging liar. Well, ok, it was an online poll on his own website. Read how the Orange Tanned One tried to rig his own poll/ Veritas=Truth? I think not.

Cuts inserted as I realised it was a little long...

Hmm :-D

I know how he feels...

In other news, I had a grotty cold all weekend so spent the whole time in bed reading books and watching DVDs. The entire directors commentary for all the extended Lord of the Rings Films, Pirates of the Caribbean, Disk 1&2 of Series 1 of Dark Angel, an Iain M Banks book, Asimov's Foundation trilogy (no idea why I had to pick it back up again) and some other cool stuff.

Still feel grotty, but not enough to justify skiving off work again. I demand sympathy cos I'm a bloke and it's just a head cold really.

Hmm.

Greece, as I mentioned, was very cool. Saturday, I checked out, and went to see the Acropolis. Immense, and very weird to look out from the top of the mountain it's on.

Delays, delays, death on the line )
So, I get home after midnight, and sleep. and sleep. Boy do I sleep.

Woke up yesterday morning because my alarm shouted at me. Rang in to work, went back to sleep.
Jealousy of success )
Ah well; off to watch more DVDs; Fellowship pt 2 then Two Towers, or Donnie Darko (finally succumbed to the urge to get it, never seen it but so many people keep telling me it's good, at £5, not really bothered if it isn't...)?

Meetings...

So... many... meetings...

All day yesterday (2) one today that overran by 4 hours, one last Monday, one previous Friday, 2 more tomorrow (that overlap). Then the writing up of the "action plans" and making sure the right work is done by the right people.

The joys of management. Still yesterday afternoon's meeting got me out of the office and up to Exeter, but I was so knackered at the end that I forgot to ring people see if they were free :-(

I'm crap. Otoh, ganked from [livejournal.com profile] misseve...

Time to go home; Steve leant me La Femme Nikita series 1 and the original Luc Besson film. Gotta be worth a watch, I'm in the mood for brain dead violence :-D

This is not my first post. This is just redated so it's not at the top of my journal all the time.

I'm Mat. This is my personal journal, the fun stuff. I also write in a few other places, including Not Little England (on UK politics) and TaKtiX (about gaming).

For more about me, your best bet is to read the bio and Userinfo. This post is mostly here so I can find all the tags I use easily, it may get more useful stuff in the future. It's not a 'Friends Only' Journal, but I do filter some stuff. Oh, if you're using Internet Explorer... ) go here and get help.
