OK, [personal profile] miss_s_b cooked us a lovely veggie cottage pie this evening, with cheap garlic bread using a baguette from Tesco's bargain bin.

So I need to cook pudding after Shrub's gone to bed. I've done loads of steam puddings recently, as well as cookies, muffins, biscuits and bread variants (recipes might get posted on request, I still have the bread recipe in drafts somewhere). So...

Any suggestions?

Preferably not involving nuts (because I'm allergic) or chocolate (as Jennie's allergic). Stuff involving syrup or jam is an added bonus but not essential.

Syrup sponge pudding? Basically a sponge cake done in the microwave soaked in golden syrup.

Fruit flapjack?

Not sure what the most accurate conversion. I wish more US recipes were by weight rather than volume too but unfortunately they're not.

The recipe was a random googling for an example so you might be able to find one with measurements by volume. :) Mom makes it but I don't know if she even measures...though she does make it heavy on the whiskey at times hehehe

Mom also makes a pear tart that is just f-ing amazing from a Martha Stewart recipe. I don't know if this is exactly it but it looks close

Crud, it has almonds. Ah well

Another thing that Mom makes that's delicious is a vinegar pie. Yeah, it sounds odd but it's great.

What you do is, you put the end with the metal cage things in the eggs, hold the bar handle horizontally and turn the wheel with your wanking hand.

Simples.

Hot custard poured over ice cream totally counts as baking a dessert.

Everyone should have a proper hand cranked whisk, simply because they're AWESOME.

You are very very careful not to get any yolk in with the white, aren't you?

Out of options, sorry. Most of my desserts involve either choc or fruit and I can't bake.
Treacle tart would involve syrup.
